The Way of The Cross

Do you think that fame, power, treasure or talent will guarantee a man’s passage to heaven?  Think again.  There is only one way for redemption and for the inheritance of the kingdom of God, and that is: The Way of The Cross.  In the flow of our daily life we plan many events for our own needs and pleasure, and for the needs of others.  We think that as long as we have a sound mind and intellect, it is our will that controls our life and destiny.  We also think that if we are living a “Christian” life, then, when our time is up in this world, our passage to God’s kingdom will already be guaranteed.  Are we really sure of that?  It is always the Will of God that controls the universe, your life and mine.  Christians must submit their lives to God’s divine providence and always remember the first and second chapters of the Book of Genesis, where we read about the creation of the universe by the will of God.  The power of men in the story of the tower of Babel (Genesis 11) became the cause of men’s dispersion, but by the power and the will of God through Christ and His redemptive cross, humanity gathered together and became the New Assembly, to be saved by the way of the cross and by the grace of the Holy Spirit. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; ...” (John 14:6). The Apostle Paul says, “Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.  I tell you this, brethren: flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.” (1 Cor. 15:49-50).

Faith is the light of our soul that guides us to the knowledge of God.  Therefore St. Paul exhorts us saying, “Be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong.” (1 Cor. 16:13).  The kingdom of heaven is attained by the anchoring of our faith into the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  “For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”  (Gal. 6:8).
